Pink like the hibiscus
Stretching into our window
Pink like the sunrise
Pricked open by the fingers of God
Pink like your fingernails
Going through my morning hair
Pink like the oversized cotton candy
We laughed when I held it next to you

Pink like my invisible heart
Beating, a-beating just for you
Pink like a dried bloodstain
I stopped the flow so I could love you
Pink were the peaches I carried
I picked the best for you
Pink was your hospital gown
You were a princess in repose
Regal but subdued

Pink were my cheeks
From crying all night
As the colour drained from you
Pink were my knuckles
Holding onto the bedrails
Grasping onto you

Pink were the roses
I brought to your wake
I picked the prettiest for you
Pink turned into gritty grey
As I tried not to tremble
Standing over you.

Heavy were my footsteps
As I walked away from you
Gritty grey gave way to
Darker grey
As I bid
Adieu
To you.
